Where We Stand As Omicron Hits America

(Listen to my conversation with Alliance Defending Freedom on these issues as well on Alex Garrett Podcasting : https://www.spreaker.com/episode/47417794)

New York State is about to enter another COVID state of emergency due to Omicron found in NYC.

Must I remind our elected officials: Firstly a lockdown doesn’t make sense if more people continue to get vaccinated! A vaccine should be a protector, so locking down defeats that purpose,

Secondly, Mayor de Blasio and President Biden urged CALM and told us again NOT TO PANIC. Underneath those sentiments, are they trying to install new lockdown measures behind our backs?

What we are all seeing is that AMERICANS ARE SUFFERING. If prolonged lockdowns didn’t shutter biz, cause people to quit their jobs in record numbers, and didn’t cause so much stress and anxiety , more people would be vaxxed. This also does involve God, because He is overseeing all of us every minute! Religious exemptions still have to be fought for with this vaccine. What happened to the first amendment? Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion anyone ? I don’t believe it’s the vaccine itself that is being fought .

As mandates and proposed new measures come about, it becomes clearer that no one in leadership gives a damn about the American male or female today, especially during COVID where the healthy were told to stay home or be fired for not being vaccinated.

I see society rallying for those coming here illegally possibly carrying the virus while everyday Americans are frustrated and are being ignored! My biggest fear still is hearing Americans scream for help and going insane because their business has been forced to close and they have been locked down. We are not an insane asylum and the sane that want to be open should be allowed to be 100% now!

It’s the control aspect of government in New York, California and even 1600 Penn that people are protesting, not so much the use of science!

Why I’m Scared of Adapting To Cryptocurrency, Especially on Black Friday

Are you shopping Black Friday sales on cryptocurrency? If so, you are not alone . Bitcoin is now trading at 54K on Black Friday. That sounds promising, but I am terrified moreso of the risks that come with buying the dip on Bitcoin and other forms of crypto. Especially after the crash today : https://www.forbes.com/sites/billybambrough/2021/11/26/be-on-guard-black-friday-crypto-crash-wipes-billions-from-the-price-of-bitcoin-ethereum-bnb-solana-cardano-xrp-and-dogecoin/.

I recently had an expert on crypto, Brett King, the founder of Moven . We had a great conversation starting with the renaming of the Staples Center to Crypto.com Arena. I had questions about America’s Central Bank, the Fed, starting to surveil us through crypto and bitcoin, etc. That would be the end of America and our rights , as far as I can tell.

Brett King told me to ‘separate the politics ‘ and just focus on the benefits of cryptocurrency. While examples he offered of crypto bringing America to a live-able wage, which would be useful considering the record 4.4 million Americans that quit their job in September due to that issue alone. However, a digital wallet leaves the floodgates open to fraud and we already know the Government doesn’t do enough regulation on fraud protection (in my personal opinion). We also know this government is already spying on our banking records of transactions over 600 dollars. What surveillance could crypto truly bring?

I’m also genuinely scared of going cashless as a society, always have been. At the same time, we need to be competitive with China economically again. According to King, they’ve even developed to the point where the Beijing Olympics will be using a MOBILE WALLET only linked to their CENTRAL BANK currency for their transactions. Mr. King believes that cryptocurrency would make us just that. King added, “The US really must modernize their economy. Part of that must be either a Central Bank digital currency or a bastion of cryptocurrency to compete with China, I think that’s really clear.”

While crypto could be very good in creating what we would call a liveable wage and competition, I’m terrified of what would be going on with our data and the possibility of surveillance through Central Bank Currency. That feels like the trade off here to having economic edge on our enemies, and I hope and pray the US Government and consumers choose and think wisely, especially on this Black Friday!

Previewing ‘King Richard’ and The Adaptations Made By the Williams Sisters

On my most recent podcast, sportswriter Cecil Harris discussed with me his interactions with Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena. We talked ahead of the release of ‘King Richard ‘, starring Will Smith, about Cecil’s up-close interactions with the real life Williams family.

Cecil also gave us a look at the 76 page plan Richard Williams made to woo coaches and bring his girls up to be tennis superstars. We also discussed how adaptations made by the Williams Sisters were led by ‘King Richard’. Is it possible one man inspired generations of women by just hearing the term The Williams Sisters ? Click the interview link below to find out Cecil’s answer to that one !

The conversation also covered Colin Kaepernick’s Netflix Series , ‘Colin in Black And White’.

The NLDS Check-Swing Heard ‘Round The World

I write this with one major plea. Please do not make check swings reviewable!

If you had tuned in Thursday night to the Los Angeles Dodgers- San Francisco Giants NLDS Game 5, you got the classic you hoped for !

Baseball fans were in elation that this legendary series dating back to the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants was alive and well in 2021 on the West Coast! Interestingly enough, the ‘Shot Heard ‘Round the World’ that propelled the NY Giants over the Brooklyn Dodgers was 70 years ago this month!

That is why I say the check-swing that ended the 107-win SG Giants season is the check-swing heard around the world! It had that magnitude as Wilmer Flores CLEARLY held up yet first base umpire Gabe Morales called him out . Morales later explained , “Check swings are one of the hardest calls we have. I don’t have the benefit of multiple camera angles when I’m watching it live. When it happened live, I thought he went, so that’s why I called it a swing.”

As bad as the call was to end the NLDS classic, the call was what we have fell in love with in baseball, the pure human nature of the game. Of the call of the umpire, and the nature of the game. That’s why to call for check swings to become reviewable will continue to shred the purity and the human error this game was built on! For goodness sake, E is for ‘error’ on the scoreboard! Why can’t umpire calls be left sacred? Why must this game become more robotic via video review? It will become too robotic for the average fan and the purist!

As this league looks to make the game faster, a reminder there is no clock and all the reviews in the world simply add two minutes to an already 3-plus hour game! It would be insanity to add check swing to the growing list of video reviews !

Is the Eviction Moratorium A Fair Shake For All?

As a Nee York City lifer, I’ve always enjoyed the apartment life. I loved living in one until the time was right to move with my family to Queens. Yet, as this pandemic winds on, to read reports that tenants are bailing their apartments and skipping out on paying rent , I have to ask if the eviction moratorium is what progressives would like to call a ‘fair share’.

This idea of a fair share should not pertain to just the tenant, it must also pertain to the landlord who is owed the rent every first of the month. To answer whether this Eviction Moratorium is a fair share policy, I turned to Cassin and Cassin , LLP partner Steve Ebert. You can hear Steve Saturday Mornings on Eye on Real Estate with Dottie Herman 10-12 on AM 970 the Answer!

Should America Adapt to a Global Minimum Tax?

I know for a fact I am no economist. I do know we are all taxpayers, able-bodied and the disabled community alike. I do know athletes and sports franchises have to pay their taxes as well, which is why any financial news feels worth blogging and even podcasting about.

The frustrating thing about rising taxes is that it deflects from the real issues. Why should the American taxpayer feel the brunt of a disrupted supply chain when those costs should be foisted on the companies who have been slowed up and yes even China. China of course led the disinformation campaign on COVID-19 yet we have not asked them to pay their fair share for the deaths and destruction and loss of income.

Yet, the G20 could be adopting an Accord that will be asking 136 countries to impose a MINIMUM 15% tax on profits made by companies making over 150 BILLION DOLLARS. Sounds like a fair share, right? What if , I mean what if countries taxed them beyond just 15%, say 25% ? Possibilities are endless when it comes to taxing companies at a minimum. You can read more on this through Reuters (https://www.reuters.com/business/oecd-says-deal-global-minimum-corporate-tax-rate-has-been-reached-2021-10-08/)

I admit I like the idea of discouraging corporate inversion , which according to Reuters this minimum tax would do , “many governments want more than ever to discourage multinationals from shifting profits – and tax revenues – to low-tax countries regardless of where their sales are made.” Yet, the idea that this will just hit big corporations feels like a farce. I could see hard working American small business owners who have a company that works around the world being hit with this .

Anything ‘Global’ isn’t for the American, I heartily believe that! We aren’t the Global States of America ! We are the United States of America who help out around the globe where and when needed.

Our government should not pre-occupy ourselves with this kind of foreign affairs. We need to figure out a way to keep from our companies being hacked and work to fix this supply chain without paying a ransom! Stop using COVID as a way to tax us , America !

Americans won’t let the government wear us down completely! We have a first amendment to speak out and a ballot box to fill!

America’s destiny remains in the voter’s hands, I do believe that!

#FreeBritney Is the Adaptation Story of 2021

The freedom of Britney Spears is by far the biggest story of adapting in 2021. For starters, the work of the #FreeBritney movement has truly made a difference in the 39 year old pop star’s life. This also could inspire us to breakthrough in our own lives.

The breaking of Britney Spears conservatorship brought me to ask this on Adapting With Alex Garrett, ‘Can we rid ourselves of the mental and metaphorical conservatorships?’ Our head can be quite the place if we let it. Does our mind own us? Heck no ! Yet, we sure let it bother and own us as if it has a conservatorship over us, am I right?

When I say metaphorical, I am saying someone or something external also has a hold on us as if the situation owning us! Perhaps, the adapting to freedom by Britney Spears can inspire us to break free from the metaphorical conservatorship some of us might be going through daily! A reminder, God can break us through the metaphorical conservatorships we go through as well by faith!

Why My Personal Story Rarely Makes the Podcast

Firstly, despite public opinion, I don’t like talking about my daily life story on my podcast . In fact, I love hearing about what others have to say about the times and the world around us. Hence, when I look for that next big story to cover, I scroll. I scroll furiously in fact!

For those just meeting me and my podcast, I admit I could be more open about rollerblading around New York City on just one leg. That is something everyone seems to want to look at as I just wheel, zone it out, and turn up my headphones. Yet, talking about other big stories is what excites my podcasting palate.

If there was anything I want to be on record for, it’s sharing thoughts on the world around us, not ‘here is how I overcame today’. Quite frankly, very rarely do I feel like I overcome, I just feel like I’m living the best life I can! There are people out there who literally struggle to overcome, it’s those people I want to highlight and then it’s the ones that overcome the most that I want to highlight through interviews and features on ‘Adapting With Alex Garrett’.

So, if I ever am gapped in posting on my blog, it’s because I’m out finding the next adapter to highlight!

Combating Afghanistan Crisis Through Rudyard Kipling!

As the August 31st deadline of leaving Afghanistan looms, Alex Garrett Podcasting implores President Biden and the military to be inspired by the poem ‘If’ By Rudyard Kipling! Find the actual podcast link below!

Here is the actual poem by Kipling in its entirety:

‘If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!’

I explain how it is necessary to combine the big IF that is Afghanistan with the more wiser ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling here : https://www.spreaker.com/episode/46277481
