Should America Adapt to a Global Minimum Tax?

I know for a fact I am no economist. I do know we are all taxpayers, able-bodied and the disabled community alike. I do know athletes and sports franchises have to pay their taxes as well, which is why any financial news feels worth blogging and even podcasting about.

The frustrating thing about rising taxes is that it deflects from the real issues. Why should the American taxpayer feel the brunt of a disrupted supply chain when those costs should be foisted on the companies who have been slowed up and yes even China. China of course led the disinformation campaign on COVID-19 yet we have not asked them to pay their fair share for the deaths and destruction and loss of income.

Yet, the G20 could be adopting an Accord that will be asking 136 countries to impose a MINIMUM 15% tax on profits made by companies making over 150 BILLION DOLLARS. Sounds like a fair share, right? What if , I mean what if countries taxed them beyond just 15%, say 25% ? Possibilities are endless when it comes to taxing companies at a minimum. You can read more on this through Reuters (https://www.reuters.com/business/oecd-says-deal-global-minimum-corporate-tax-rate-has-been-reached-2021-10-08/)

I admit I like the idea of discouraging corporate inversion , which according to Reuters this minimum tax would do , “many governments want more than ever to discourage multinationals from shifting profits – and tax revenues – to low-tax countries regardless of where their sales are made.” Yet, the idea that this will just hit big corporations feels like a farce. I could see hard working American small business owners who have a company that works around the world being hit with this .

Anything ‘Global’ isn’t for the American, I heartily believe that! We aren’t the Global States of America ! We are the United States of America who help out around the globe where and when needed.

Our government should not pre-occupy ourselves with this kind of foreign affairs. We need to figure out a way to keep from our companies being hacked and work to fix this supply chain without paying a ransom! Stop using COVID as a way to tax us , America !

Americans won’t let the government wear us down completely! We have a first amendment to speak out and a ballot box to fill!

America’s destiny remains in the voter’s hands, I do believe that!

#FreeBritney Is the Adaptation Story of 2021

The freedom of Britney Spears is by far the biggest story of adapting in 2021. For starters, the work of the #FreeBritney movement has truly made a difference in the 39 year old pop star’s life. This also could inspire us to breakthrough in our own lives.

The breaking of Britney Spears conservatorship brought me to ask this on Adapting With Alex Garrett, ‘Can we rid ourselves of the mental and metaphorical conservatorships?’ Our head can be quite the place if we let it. Does our mind own us? Heck no ! Yet, we sure let it bother and own us as if it has a conservatorship over us, am I right?

When I say metaphorical, I am saying someone or something external also has a hold on us as if the situation owning us! Perhaps, the adapting to freedom by Britney Spears can inspire us to break free from the metaphorical conservatorship some of us might be going through daily! A reminder, God can break us through the metaphorical conservatorships we go through as well by faith!

Why My Personal Story Rarely Makes the Podcast

Firstly, despite public opinion, I don’t like talking about my daily life story on my podcast . In fact, I love hearing about what others have to say about the times and the world around us. Hence, when I look for that next big story to cover, I scroll. I scroll furiously in fact!

For those just meeting me and my podcast, I admit I could be more open about rollerblading around New York City on just one leg. That is something everyone seems to want to look at as I just wheel, zone it out, and turn up my headphones. Yet, talking about other big stories is what excites my podcasting palate.

If there was anything I want to be on record for, it’s sharing thoughts on the world around us, not ‘here is how I overcame today’. Quite frankly, very rarely do I feel like I overcome, I just feel like I’m living the best life I can! There are people out there who literally struggle to overcome, it’s those people I want to highlight and then it’s the ones that overcome the most that I want to highlight through interviews and features on ‘Adapting With Alex Garrett’.

So, if I ever am gapped in posting on my blog, it’s because I’m out finding the next adapter to highlight!

Combating Afghanistan Crisis Through Rudyard Kipling!

As the August 31st deadline of leaving Afghanistan looms, Alex Garrett Podcasting implores President Biden and the military to be inspired by the poem ‘If’ By Rudyard Kipling! Find the actual podcast link below!

Here is the actual poem by Kipling in its entirety:

‘If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!’

I explain how it is necessary to combine the big IF that is Afghanistan with the more wiser ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling here : https://www.spreaker.com/episode/46277481

How the Passing of Rod Gilbert and the FDNY Connect on Alex Garrett Podcasting

Earlier this week, Alex Garrett Podcasting remembered New York Rangers legend Rod Gilbert ! Rod was not only a member of the Goal-A-Game line, he was an integral part of the community off the ice as well.

You might have read the article about the Islanders connection to my alma mater, Henry Viscardi High School, well Rod has roots at the Viscardi Center as well! He always took time out to support the kids at the Sports-night Gala year in and year out. In May of 2021, this was no different as he took part in a ZOOM breakout session before the virtual Sports Night event took place for the Viscardi Center! That would be the last time I would get to thank him for everything.

One of the last times I got to see him, it was at a Rangers 5k in Flushing Meadows Park. I remember this excited feeling of seeing him after a long period of time, and LEAPING into his arms as if he was family. Quite frankly, Rod made you feel like family! As you’ll find out in research , Rod also had to ADAPT to spinal fusion and multiple health crises that made him a stronger hockey player!

The below picture is where this story gets even more intriguing!

AlexGNYC with Rod Gilbert / Rangers 5K in Queens/ November 12, 2017

Where this gets interesting even more is the bib number (343) I wore that race was actually the number of FDNY firefighters lost on 9/11/01 that tragic day alone! My friend, Steve, pointed this out to me and I’m forever changed by the information.

To inadvertently represent the men and women who lost their lives defending our city, trying to save many lives, it’s God’s plan for sure!

For this 20th commemoration, I will proudly honor the firefighters who lost their lives that day as well as their loved ones, because now that I have this knowledge, I would love to support New York’s Bravest through this period even more!

God Rest Rod Gilbert’s soul and God Bless America!

Alex Garrett Podcasting Let’s Loose on Afghanistan Disaster

On his YouTube channel and his podcast, Alex Garrett looks at the disastrous exit out of Afghanistan from a New York City perspective .

It is a slap in the face to NYC that the region we have fought so hard to get rid of terrorism easily falls apart in NYC. Alex points out that it’s as if defending the city 20 yrs later from terrorism means nothing to the Biden administration.

Alex also expands on the idea that the grief suffered for 20 years of those who lost family members fighting in Afghanistan has been returned watching the work fall to ruin in just one week!

Alex Garrett Podcasting Covers Census 2020

On an earlier edition of Alex Garrett Podcasting, Alex talked about how the 2020 US Census completely eroded the idea that this country isn’t the land of opportunity for everyone .

The fact is the Census has shown that our beautiful country known as America truly is diversifying, just ask CNN (see below)!

When you hear professors like Chanelle Wilson say America is only for white people (https://redstate.com/alexparker/2021/08/13/professor-insists-u-s-is-only-for-white-people-talks-redemption-when-there-is-no-america-n426300?utm_source=rsmorningbriefing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl&bcid=5de854bbc553d249a7935e4212809c6f) Alex Garrett podcasting notes how the 2020 Census totally debunks the theory!

This podcast also discusses how the 2020 Census blows up the critical race theory arguments discussed in classrooms across the country!

Alex Garrett Podcasting For 8/14/21

On the Sportshour side of Alex Garrett Podcasting, Alex tackles whether records in sports are truly meant to be broken.

Met legend Tom Seaver’s 10 straight strikeout record established in April 1970 against the Padres has only been TIED in 2021 by the Phillies’ Aaron Nola and the Brewers’ Corbin Burnes . Is Seaver’s record meant to be broken?

Alex shares his thoughts about whether or not the Seaver record is unbreakable like the Joe DiMaggio 56 game hit streak or Cy Young’s 511 wins is unbreakable !

A Summer of Resiliency in 2021

If there was ever a summer of the comeback kids, it’s this one, summer 2021! This comeback kid on wheels is feeling the resilience of America everywhere I roll and on the podcast apps I scroll!

This summer, I just found out the original online talk show I had created, The Sportshour with Alex Garrett , was approved by the iHeartRadio app!

Why this means so much is there were countless times while on air at WQMC Radio at Queens College the ratings meter did not tick up very much. That honestly got into my head a lot more than I’d like to admit! Imagine thinking you are taking to yourself and only thyself?! Yet, I didn’t give up on the show and now it’s on podcast apps all over the place!

Let me say that again: I didn’t give up on the show and now it’s on podcast apps all over the place, under the umbrella of Alex Garrett Podcasting. So if this summer can be realized as a summer of resilience, you TOO can stay resilient!

While we now have to hunker down against the Delta variant, our resilience is needed again and that includes not locking down again! We can weather this storm without shutting down, I freaking feel it!

It’s wild to think seeing my own show on IHeartRadio and some confidence-stilling can inspire staying the course of resiliency . It’s the only way I know how to live by persevering and living through any adversity! It can be done!

A self-created podcast on a podcast app has helped teach me that this summer of the come back kid!
