Alex Garrett to NYC: ‘Let’s Get Goin’

Via LinkedIn NEWS

On my latest podcast, I broke down the graphic above showing how just 25 PERCENT of NEW YORKERS are seeking employment ! This city, this state is much more driven than that, it’s up to local leaders and the media to instill confidence again!

Find out on my podcast why I say to New York City : LET’s GET GOING!

We Are Now Amidst a Scamdemic

Imagine leaning into the idea of a 4 million dollar profit as your state is in the grips of the worst pandemic anyone on this Earth has seen since 1918.

The New York Times , THE TIMES, has the most damning headline I’ve seen since the news of under-reporting started to break . It reads ‘AS CUOMO SOUGHT $4 MILLION BOOK DEAL, AIDES HID DAMAGING DEATH TOLL’. I have written here on this blog before that this is even worse than the Nixon cover-up because those were just tapes, these are DEATHS that have been hidden! Criminality I have to believe. For more on the Times article take a look here, https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/31/nyregion/cuomo-book-nursing-homes.html

I implore those that truly love Cuomo to this to day to adapt to the idea that once summer hit, NYS went from being in a pandemic to a scamdemic, and the Governor smiled and laughed all the while.

He VISITED other places like Atlanta when he told us all to stay in our homes , dare I say basements. That was a warning sign to me that he really even stopped taking COVID-19 as serious.

He’s not the only one that I feel has scammed us as a nation. I at one point considered welcoming wheelchair-bound NC Congressman Madison Cawthorn because of his comeback story of surviving a major car crash and becoming a Republican US Congressman .

Until I found out he falsified the circumstances around his 2014 crash in a speech at his Christian college. Cawthorn painted himself to have been left for dead after the paralyzing car crash by his friend, Bradley Ledford. Ledford then told his side of the story which had shown Rep. Cawthorn to be Dishonest . Yet, imagine describing a bold faced lie as a harrowing story right into being elected to Represent in Washington , D.C.

Lying about the situation which caused someone to adapt should be called out and held accountable.

It’s one thing to scam your way into government funding by lying about disability, but to intentionally mislead about the circumstances of a disability FOR VOTES is hurtful to those who have to adapt every day to thrive in this world being disabled! Way to be part of the scamdemic, Rep. Cawthorn!

Being a New Yorker the impetus to write this certainly includes Governor Cuomo and the Cuomo cover-up! However, in Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz has found himself in hot water! I feel he too has scammed his constituents into believing he is this hard-working family man.

For a 30+ year old man to be proudly stating he’s been a church-goer to be even entertaining idea of palling around with a 17 yr old is quite alarming. Thankfully this had not happened while with his fiancée . However, by not showing any kind of discipline with this relationship, his behavior contributes to the scamdemic of leaders not doing as they say.

Albeit, personal lives are never going to be an issue on the ballot and these lives of public figures will take their course as they may. I do think Cuomo policy of re-stating nursing home patients with COVID is a huge story that this Gaetz saga will now kick to the side, and that’s not right either!

In all of these examples, for us the average citizen and busy voter/taxpayer, we must find a way out of this scamdemic and I think the best way is to ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS!

I Won’t Make It In Media Because…

…Because I want to bridge the gap with this plaftorm!

This is the exact title of my latest Podcast .

I dedicated some time to discuss this idea of bridging the gap. I believe it is a must here in 2021, but it won’t go viral to say the gap and divide seen in Washington and America must be narrowed.

Yes, everyone talks about it. The term ‘bridging the gap’ is getting worn out and quite frankly over-used and politicized. Yet, the talkers aren’t always highlighting the DOERS that work to bridge gaps in today’s society. It is frustrating when you think about it. Why would the talkers not be DOING? Because if one solution was found, there would be an erosion of profits first and foremost.

There is no doubt this gap keeps existing without any bridging because division makes money, right? Maintaining the division profits so many different sectors of society! News networks profit off continually highlighting the divide while claiming to want to bridge the divide! To do that, you’d actually have to invite those making waves in their community on to various shows. 90% of the time during the week, talking heads talk with other talking heads and the feel good ‘in the community’ segments air on a Sunday when no one really is watching. LET’S STOP BURYING THE BRIDGE GAPPING LEDE!

Can legislation be a bridge-gapper? I would love to hope our tax dollars go to finding solutions, but gridlock STILL plainly exists in Washington, Albany and the Mayor of New York’s office. That’s not by accident. Our elected leaders answer to lobbyists, who fund them. If they actually came together agreeing AGAINST their interests, the lobbyists would turn on them and the donations would stop. I would say, let’s forego focus on the donors and focus on the issues to bridge our divides, but that’s why I wouldn’t make it in politics either. I don’t ever feel meant to be tied down to outside interests in this life!

If this platform, Adapting With Alex Garrett, can’t make it in the media world or politics, that is fine by me! I’d rather welcome those who have solutions and fixers. I want to direct you to places in NYC specifically like the Downtown Alliance (https://downtownny.com/); NY Hospitality Alliance (https://www.thenycalliance.org/) and Upper West Side Together (https://www.facebook.com/groups/3199698486785596/). Find out the organizations doing good in your neck of the woods and let me know of them at alex@alexgnyc.com!

I implore you to utilize your platform to highlight the doers and the bridge-gappers, not the talking heads!

Adapting to Country AND New York City With Author Nick Lyons

It’s very rare to have a two part conversation for my podcast , but the discussion with award-winning writer Nick Lyons about his new book , “Fire In the Straw” (Fire in the Straw) covered so much and is worth a two part series!

Part One With Nick Lyons

Part Two With Nick Lyons

James Dolan and Wollman Rink , A Match Made in Heaven

If you hadn’t seen it, Wollman Rink in New York City has had to be saved by the Central Park ice skating community.

How did we get here? When the de Blasio administration made the decision to cut contracts with all Trump organization institutions in New York City, they left Wollman rink staff, families, and kids in a state of panic that the very rink Trump saved could be taken away from out right from under their skates

Personally, not one skater on that ice should be held responsible for the insurrection of the Capitol on January 6th. Yet, that is what Mayor de Blasio is doing , and it shows his citizenry does not come first for him.

After a Change.org petition saved Wollman’s shutdown for just a few more weeks, there is a lot more work to be done!

New York City Parks Dept. Is holding bidding for a new owner to operate Wollman Rink, which by the way not just does winter skating but they do have outdoor activities for the community as well.

The one businessman I can see truly saving Wollman Rink is Rangers and Knicks owner James Dolan. The Rangers and Wollman are such a natural fit considering the rink and hockey ties. Just a few years ago, the Rangers held an outdoor practice at Wollman Rink and Garden of Dreams has often hosted galas .

If Dolan were to come along and save the rink, he really would be doing the Central Park ice skating community a service and the city should encourage it!

Fact of the matter is, I didn’t see one person on that rink really care about the Trump Organization name on the boards, on the concourse or anywhere, they just wanted to skate!

If the city ends up offering the operations but doesn’t encourage an actual buyer, then lives will be upended and I thought the Mayor of the City of New York is supposed to protect the citizenry, not tear it down!

I expanded on this in my latest Podcast on Spreaker !

Snow = Survival

As you could see above, I put my boot in the snow as a stake of victory against the latest snowstorm that battered New York City!

Many who already have battled lockdown, just felt that this storm was a pile-on to the stay-at-home life.

For me, working in radio during snow is ALWAYS an adventure. Weathering the storm in studio or at a hotel just blocks away, there is always this adventure of being IN THE STORM. Being in that storm this week , I felt a sense of accomplishment !

While rollerblading may seem like the ultimate adaption for many that are looking into my world from the outside, those who know me know how intense it feels when that skate is unusable in the snow.

I feel smaller , like my 4’11’’ height and a lot more human ! Working on crutches and a boot navigating the ice and snow has always felt like a big deal, because it’s the time I actually have to be mindful of staying grounded on foot. No one wants to fall in the snow!

Snowstorm 2021 taught me that if I can weather the storm on crutches and boot, I can conquer and accomplish anything in this life! Sometimes even I need a boost in my motivation, and every step I took in my boot, every time I looked down at the ground to see I just pushed through another snow patch , I felt this feeling that I can do anything!

I hope as life is fragile as it is, we stop fussing over cars stuck in snowy traffic and just celebrate getting back home , sheltered from the storm and safe as possible! I celebrated by doing more on this through my podcast on how snow truly is my survival skill!
