Let’s Put God Over Gossip

As I watched the funeral of Prince Philip, I felt an honest pang in my soul. It was one that made me realize the Royal Family are first and foremost PEOPLE. ‘Why do we always gossip over these people? ‘ I thought to myself. I also realized the Royal Family honored the 99 year old Duke of Edinburgh with a funeral mass because they turned to God, as any family would, in this time of grief. Yet, the networks would rather have shown the family over the words of the Bible and that’s what fired me up the most yesterday.

The Royal Family are looking to God. God brought Prince Harry back and broke the ice between him and his brother Prince William. That was GOD’s doing in a time where everyone else miles away from Buckingham Palace would rather fill tabloids with speculation about Megxit. The fact that the Queen and Prince Philip were married 67 years meant they not only committed to themselves but the moral grounding of commitment to God to love each other was obviously present.

Divorce is such a gossip topic also, and it shouldn’t be. People always speculate on celebrity divorces, instead of praying for them and asking why maybe one of them could not stay committed to the vows they make in His house.

Many also bemoan the idea about how sideways society has gotten yet still give ratings to networks that put Gossip over the Gospel. Let’s put the Gospel and put God over Gossip.

If networks so choose to run the funeral yesterday, then I believe these same networks should full-on advocate for pastors that have been struggling to get through to their congregation amidst the lockdown. These networks should highlight Churches who benefit the community not just on Sunday but EVERY DAY!

These networks should stop putting God in the backseat in general and then wonder why evil exists! Maybe it’s because material has taken over the spiritual and we must reverse that tide. It’s not always just the gun, it’s the person’s heart behind that trigger. Anybody who believes they can carry an AK-47 or AR-15 around regular people has evil in their heart. I also happen to believe those weapons should be banned from regular use! Yet, the knee-jerk reaction to focus on the gun and not the human is part of society’s decaying. The gossiping of ‘why’d he/she do it?’ or ‘what’s the motive?’ is just chatter and doesn’t solve the bigger issues of our times.

If God was such a focus for networks as showing glorious St. George Chapel in Windsor, than prove it. Fight the fines of those pastors that have been trying to preach in their own parking lots during the pandemic when it was safe. Argue for less arrests of pastors just trying to reach their congregation the best they can and maybe, just maybe, stop gossiping about those mega-churches!

The Royal Family turned to God to honor Prince Philip. Maybe today is a turning point for all of us think about how it will be God not Gossip that can steer us back in the right direction if we just honored Him in America !

The Underreported Injustices Of Pandemic 2020

While I thank God I have made it a year in a pandemic, I really would be feeling God’s work was honored if nursing home deaths were held accountable.

We can all pat ourselves on the back for surviving a year, or we can fight for justice for the families of loved ones that were killed due to heinous policy.

When NYS Attorney General Letitia James released her findings on Governor Cuomo’s March 24th, 2020 directive to put COVID positive patients back into nursing homes, the Governor’s bright lights started to dim into the accusations of sexual assault. Yet, let’s not forget the AP and others reporting nearly 20k underreported nursing home deaths in New York State! The Cuomo cover – up is worse than Nixon in that it hid DEATH! This is a criminal offense and obstruction that has eyes at the FBI and DOJ investigating right now!

The other underreported injustice is the fight to be free from domestic abuses amidst the lockdown. According to the IndexJournal reporting, the CDC, the very agency telling us how important and safe lockdowns would be, also reported that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men have experienced domestic abuse . (IndexJournal). This disturbing trend has to come to light. I read stories of pizza places becoming safe havens for the abused in their communities . Why would the CDC make citizens live in fear not just from a pandemic but from those who live right in the same house? Why didn’t this get much attention?!

Let’s also talk about how this year of pandemic led to many horrific cases of people contemplating suicide. According to the Washington Post, 1 in 4 young adults had at one point seriously considered suicide . (Washington Post) As far as actual suicide deaths a a result of the lockdown, numbers aren’t as prevalent . Yet, for the stories of those who have taken their lives during this time, their families must be recognized and cared for!

How could these government leaders not know putting COVID positive patients in nursing homes lead to deaths ? Oh wait they definitely did and criminally cooked the books as not to be tweeted by then-President Trump, are you kidding me? By the same token, how could the CDC not work harder to combat the affects of the lockdowns they mandated on this country ?

After the horrible death of George Floyd, fighting for justice is what 2020 ended up being about. The rallying cries of ‘no justice , no peace’ rang out and then riots broke out.

No riots, no protests for the families that lost loved ones in the nursing home disaster just because the media LOVED CUOMO. Let’s protest affects of these COVID policies which also led to injustice!

Adapting to Country AND New York City With Author Nick Lyons

It’s very rare to have a two part conversation for my podcast , but the discussion with award-winning writer Nick Lyons about his new book , “Fire In the Straw” (Fire in the Straw) covered so much and is worth a two part series!

James Dolan and Wollman Rink , A Match Made in Heaven

If you hadn’t seen it, Wollman Rink in New York City has had to be saved by the Central Park ice skating community.

How did we get here? When the de Blasio administration made the decision to cut contracts with all Trump organization institutions in New York City, they left Wollman rink staff, families, and kids in a state of panic that the very rink Trump saved could be taken away from out right from under their skates

Personally, not one skater on that ice should be held responsible for the insurrection of the Capitol on January 6th. Yet, that is what Mayor de Blasio is doing , and it shows his citizenry does not come first for him.

After a Change.org petition saved Wollman’s shutdown for just a few more weeks, there is a lot more work to be done!

New York City Parks Dept. Is holding bidding for a new owner to operate Wollman Rink, which by the way not just does winter skating but they do have outdoor activities for the community as well.

The one businessman I can see truly saving Wollman Rink is Rangers and Knicks owner James Dolan. The Rangers and Wollman are such a natural fit considering the rink and hockey ties. Just a few years ago, the Rangers held an outdoor practice at Wollman Rink and Garden of Dreams has often hosted galas .

If Dolan were to come along and save the rink, he really would be doing the Central Park ice skating community a service and the city should encourage it!

Fact of the matter is, I didn’t see one person on that rink really care about the Trump Organization name on the boards, on the concourse or anywhere, they just wanted to skate!

If the city ends up offering the operations but doesn’t encourage an actual buyer, then lives will be upended and I thought the Mayor of the City of New York is supposed to protect the citizenry, not tear it down!

I expanded on this in my latest Podcast on Spreaker !

Life of a Batboy

On a recent podcast, I had the pleasure of welcoming Luigi ‘Squeegee’ Castillo. Luigi is a New York Yankees batboy alum and he takes us behind the scenes of that 90s clubhouse at a time when all the Yankees did was win World Series after World Series! He wrote about his experiences in ‘Clubhouse Confidential, A Yankee Batboy Insider’s Tale.

Take a listen to his story and how, with love and support from ‘The Boss’ George Steinbrenner, Ray Negron and David Cone, he adapted to become a beloved member of that Yankees clubhouse !

Adapting Can Prevent Failure

Ever have a day (or multiple days) where you just shut down mentally?

For the first time in a long while, I personally shut down after an abysmal morning that I look to not repeat again. Making a mistake at 29 is not as easy to overcome as it is at 22. As you mature, you realize the consequences of a mistake and even the shame of even committing it. It was that feeling that knocked me out. I know I shouldn’t feel ashamed about mistakes, but life can be full of preventative measures that I guess humans fail to do. I was so nervous to even tell my folks what happened, but they gave me some sound advice which I look to utilize moving forward!

Personally, I am not good at introspective and that’s helped me coast, by not looking inside. Yet, to experience failure is worthwhile! Experiencing failure can you help you grow, if we just take time to understand the substance and the reasoning why failure happened in the first place! It’s just a matter of hitting back at the failure, as Rocky Balboa notes. Do you ever fail, and have an easy blinding to the failure, instead of fully evaluating it? It’s 2021, let’s evaluate the mistakes and learn from them!

I think I’m hyping myself up here to do this, but I find it’s a worthwhile blog to encourage the adapting to failure. Not to keep failing, of course. I learned today it’s OK to talk about our failure, because you can get the advice you need from the ones who love you. I am always active and out and about, yet today I couldn’t even get out of bed until noon. I was full of embarrassment and failure. I do believe being willing to talk will get you out of bed and back on your feet. Or in my case, back on my foot!

By thinking of it I do believe you can adapt to the failure. One idea is to just write. Write out what the issue at hand was. Write out how you could have handled it much better, put the solutions IN NOW, to make failure a dead-end as much as possible. Note what worked from the last time and how you ‘adapted to failure’. Put your adaptations into practice and of course always tweak these lists as needed! Yes, adapt the adaptations already made!

Another way to adapt to failure, is to apologize PROFUSELY to those who have been affected. Not only do you come off fairly reputable still, you can put your own mind at ease. By admitting the mistake, apologizing for it, you can seriously move on to bigger and better days. Why put pride in front of the chance to adapt and prevent chaos the very next time?

Being human leads to human error. We can take that humanness, adapt to where you have flawed, and turn it into greatness!

Who Inspires The Creative Minds?

Every day, on podcasts, on Tik Tok, and on Instagram , the creativity is exploding!

I’ve blogged about this before, the idea how creativity has lifted us up during this pandemic. Yet, who lifts up the uplifting minds of social media?

It’s a question I’ve been wondering since I found a photo by Ben Ko (@benkophoto) that really inspired me. Now , I don’t open up about being inspired because I just want to spread a positive message and not make it about me.

Let me take you behind the curtain though. I firmly believe God has given creative brains to everyone, and so many take advantage of it! I believe God can and does inspire us!

He does inspire us through others . I may smile, I may have fun, but I do have down days (shocker , right?)

This pandemic sometimes ‘kicks the teeth in’ to my mindset because I do want to believe there is an end in sight, and we will see each other again!

When reality sets in that it will take a while longer, I just start remembering the ‘good old days’ in 29 years . Yet, there are moments where I find others keep going that tells me I TOO CAN KEEP GOING. YOU TOO CAN KEEP GOING!

So, creatives and anyone reading this, who inspires you? Who uplifts you? For me, the fact my immediate family are all here through this pandemic is inspiring and uplifting! It’s amazing how close I’ve become with my mom, dad and my stepdad Vic!

If you have an inspiration let me know at alexginnyc@gmail.com!

Let’s stay inspired as we hope and look to inspire!
