I’m Vaccinated, But I Won’t Bully Those Who Aren’t Vaccinated !

AlexGNYC1 2021

This was a joyous moment! The whole process of being vaccinated was in a sense magical. Two weeks ago, I completed the final dose of Pfizer thanks to NYC Health and Hospitals+ ! Hence I am fully vaccinated! Or so I thought , I’ll get to that in a bit.

However, the walk-in process felt special and right now, walk-in appointments are available if you so desire to become vaccinated! (http://on.nyc.gov/walkupvax)

I utilize this platform to simply encourage , not judge you if you don’t want to get a vaccine due to health concerns and the news surrounding after-effects. Trust me, I was nervous of side-effects of vaccine two as well. I also don’t believe in threats against resuming society if not every person is vaccinated.

Not every person gets the flu vaccine, and they have that right , why not the right in this instance as well as COVID cases decline?

My journey of what I believed is considered fully vaccinated feels exciting moving forward. Will we really need a third shot? Will I get that third shot if so? Time will tell. For now, I’m excited to just get back to the ballyard for baseball this summer . Excited to roll around the city a little more carefree than before and just enjoy a BETTER normal in our city, NEW YORK CITY. Let’s bring it back baby!

I just hope that America is not held hostage by the idea of the vaccine. We have freedoms in this country and thank GOD we haven’t mandated legislatively this vaccine. Yet, the pressures told to us that we can’t get back to normal unless we all get vaccinated is such a pressure campaign, it disheartens me.

The Oscars had everyone vaccinated, but why aren’t these stars doing ANYTHING to ease the distrust some of America still has? The President and the VP got the vaccine on CAMERA, yet they too don’t encourage us to get the vaccine , only threatening us if we don’t get that shot in the arm!

So if pressuring and bullying is what our leaders will resort to, I say just let us live! Heck, let us be vaxxed if so desired and enjoy those benefits. But, most importantly let us be adults in the room, Americans CAN handle themselves!

Let’s Put God Over Gossip

As I watched the funeral of Prince Philip, I felt an honest pang in my soul. It was one that made me realize the Royal Family are first and foremost PEOPLE. ‘Why do we always gossip over these people? ‘ I thought to myself. I also realized the Royal Family honored the 99 year old Duke of Edinburgh with a funeral mass because they turned to God, as any family would, in this time of grief. Yet, the networks would rather have shown the family over the words of the Bible and that’s what fired me up the most yesterday.

The Royal Family are looking to God. God brought Prince Harry back and broke the ice between him and his brother Prince William. That was GOD’s doing in a time where everyone else miles away from Buckingham Palace would rather fill tabloids with speculation about Megxit. The fact that the Queen and Prince Philip were married 67 years meant they not only committed to themselves but the moral grounding of commitment to God to love each other was obviously present.

Divorce is such a gossip topic also, and it shouldn’t be. People always speculate on celebrity divorces, instead of praying for them and asking why maybe one of them could not stay committed to the vows they make in His house.

Many also bemoan the idea about how sideways society has gotten yet still give ratings to networks that put Gossip over the Gospel. Let’s put the Gospel and put God over Gossip.

If networks so choose to run the funeral yesterday, then I believe these same networks should full-on advocate for pastors that have been struggling to get through to their congregation amidst the lockdown. These networks should highlight Churches who benefit the community not just on Sunday but EVERY DAY!

These networks should stop putting God in the backseat in general and then wonder why evil exists! Maybe it’s because material has taken over the spiritual and we must reverse that tide. It’s not always just the gun, it’s the person’s heart behind that trigger. Anybody who believes they can carry an AK-47 or AR-15 around regular people has evil in their heart. I also happen to believe those weapons should be banned from regular use! Yet, the knee-jerk reaction to focus on the gun and not the human is part of society’s decaying. The gossiping of ‘why’d he/she do it?’ or ‘what’s the motive?’ is just chatter and doesn’t solve the bigger issues of our times.

If God was such a focus for networks as showing glorious St. George Chapel in Windsor, than prove it. Fight the fines of those pastors that have been trying to preach in their own parking lots during the pandemic when it was safe. Argue for less arrests of pastors just trying to reach their congregation the best they can and maybe, just maybe, stop gossiping about those mega-churches!

The Royal Family turned to God to honor Prince Philip. Maybe today is a turning point for all of us think about how it will be God not Gossip that can steer us back in the right direction if we just honored Him in America !

Who Inspires The Creative Minds?

Every day, on podcasts, on Tik Tok, and on Instagram , the creativity is exploding!

I’ve blogged about this before, the idea how creativity has lifted us up during this pandemic. Yet, who lifts up the uplifting minds of social media?

It’s a question I’ve been wondering since I found a photo by Ben Ko (@benkophoto) that really inspired me. Now , I don’t open up about being inspired because I just want to spread a positive message and not make it about me.

Let me take you behind the curtain though. I firmly believe God has given creative brains to everyone, and so many take advantage of it! I believe God can and does inspire us!

He does inspire us through others . I may smile, I may have fun, but I do have down days (shocker , right?)

This pandemic sometimes ‘kicks the teeth in’ to my mindset because I do want to believe there is an end in sight, and we will see each other again!

When reality sets in that it will take a while longer, I just start remembering the ‘good old days’ in 29 years . Yet, there are moments where I find others keep going that tells me I TOO CAN KEEP GOING. YOU TOO CAN KEEP GOING!

So, creatives and anyone reading this, who inspires you? Who uplifts you? For me, the fact my immediate family are all here through this pandemic is inspiring and uplifting! It’s amazing how close I’ve become with my mom, dad and my stepdad Vic!

If you have an inspiration let me know at alexginnyc@gmail.com!

Let’s stay inspired as we hope and look to inspire!

Adapting To , Not Ridding, Disability

Below is a portion of a transcript from my January 15th podcast, ‘Adapting To, Not ‘Ridding’ Disabilities’.

‘I want you to be introduced to a woman named Tara Kiene. She’s the president CEO of Community Connections and in the Durango Herald she writes this incredible piece about changing the perceptions of the disabled community.

I think that is always what we need to do. We need to continue to smash stigma, but listen to how she writes about it. This is so cool. She wrote a great story. And what I would like to highlight are a couple of points that she made. ‘By focusing on people and ridding them of their disabilities, we discount the capabilities they offer right there.’

I’ve often been encouraged to get a prosthetic like personally that has always been like someone saying, why don’t you do this? And I tried it and I wanted to try it on as an adult. But then I thought that wouldn’t be the real me, that rollerblading would stop if I had a prosthetic leg. And more importantly, it would not be me and who God made. So there’s a lot of reasons why I enjoy rollerblading around the city. I enjoy not having a prosthetic because I don’t believe in ridding anything I believe in overcoming it.

I believe in continuing to love it, roll with it and continue to roll on with it. Let me put it that way. The whole idea that we can reshape reframe abilities and disabilities is great to hear. I want to hear more of that. I want to hear you’re this and we’re going to make it so that you can do this. We’re going to love on you and you’re going to do it. That’s how luckily my family raised me. I feel, and that’s how my friends were raised in the disabled community.

She said many people with learning disabilities find that they have struggled with reading. And because of that, they developed extraordinary memories and that benefits them in their later careers. Also, can we stop hiring people just because it feels good. It’s a feel good story. Hire them because they deserve to be hired. Hire them, not just to talk about diversity, or to meet a quota, hire them because you see something in them that maybe someone, a business down the road doesn’t see in them or refuses to seeing them hire them. Because you know, they can do a good job. Not because it’s some nice community service award.

The disability community is more than inspirational. It’s more than a community service effort to get them included. We’re just here we are amongst you. And the moment we say, yeah, he’s being hired or she’s being hired because of what she can do. Not because she’s overcoming what she can’t do. We’ll be in a better spot. The more we say I’m hiring you because I want to, I know you can do something. I know you’re working on whatever you’re dealing with and I want to see that work in my company, not to get some newspaper article about how this company hired this person. I mean, it’s nice, but that’s not why we exist.

The community and the adapting exists because we choose to exist. We choose to adapt to whatever we got going on.

And I hope you realize that. I hope you feel it. I hope if you’re a business owner listening to this, that you feel even more inspired to bring on people differently, abled, disabled people, whatever you want to say. And not because you want to feel good about yourself because you know, they can do the job. You know, they are equal opportunity for a reason, not just because it says so on some plaque, but because you know that they can do it. And I’m glad there are programs to help people who get frustrated, who get down, who don’t know if they can do it. There are programs there to help. I love that, but you know what I love even more. The fact that companies can take a risk on someone, not the average, Joe, not your regular someone who’s been stigmatized.

Those who see the stigmatizedfor more than just what’s on the cover. It takes a community effort, but there’s also no doubt that community embraces not memorializes it or highlights it as some great community service. It should be accepted that people with disabilities can do something amazing. It shouldn’t be some shock to people. It shouldn’t be like that meme that says it takes one disabled person to screw in the light bulb, and five others who are inspired by it. It shouldn’t be that way.

Let’s stop as a society assuming disabled people can’t adapt. Can’t learn. Can’t relearn. Can’t restudy. Can’t get themselves back on track, but let’s hire because we know they can do great things and not just for a photo op, but for the betterment of a company. Kudos to Tara Kiene for this article. I definitely want to bring her on and see what we can do and see how we can cover neurodiversity. We’re adapting, we’re re-framing. And we are living. Come with us as we live together in these crazy, crazy times.’
