Should America Adapt to a Global Minimum Tax?

I know for a fact I am no economist. I do know we are all taxpayers, able-bodied and the disabled community alike. I do know athletes and sports franchises have to pay their taxes as well, which is why any financial news feels worth blogging and even podcasting about.

The frustrating thing about rising taxes is that it deflects from the real issues. Why should the American taxpayer feel the brunt of a disrupted supply chain when those costs should be foisted on the companies who have been slowed up and yes even China. China of course led the disinformation campaign on COVID-19 yet we have not asked them to pay their fair share for the deaths and destruction and loss of income.

Yet, the G20 could be adopting an Accord that will be asking 136 countries to impose a MINIMUM 15% tax on profits made by companies making over 150 BILLION DOLLARS. Sounds like a fair share, right? What if , I mean what if countries taxed them beyond just 15%, say 25% ? Possibilities are endless when it comes to taxing companies at a minimum. You can read more on this through Reuters (https://www.reuters.com/business/oecd-says-deal-global-minimum-corporate-tax-rate-has-been-reached-2021-10-08/)

I admit I like the idea of discouraging corporate inversion , which according to Reuters this minimum tax would do , “many governments want more than ever to discourage multinationals from shifting profits – and tax revenues – to low-tax countries regardless of where their sales are made.” Yet, the idea that this will just hit big corporations feels like a farce. I could see hard working American small business owners who have a company that works around the world being hit with this .

Anything ‘Global’ isn’t for the American, I heartily believe that! We aren’t the Global States of America ! We are the United States of America who help out around the globe where and when needed.

Our government should not pre-occupy ourselves with this kind of foreign affairs. We need to figure out a way to keep from our companies being hacked and work to fix this supply chain without paying a ransom! Stop using COVID as a way to tax us , America !

Americans won’t let the government wear us down completely! We have a first amendment to speak out and a ballot box to fill!

America’s destiny remains in the voter’s hands, I do believe that!

Imagine President Joe Biden Building A Colosseum?

It may sound outlandish, but the way Zocalo Public Square talked about Roman Emperor Hadrian, you’d think they were praising President Biden for his deadly exit out of Afghanistan !

Zocalo Public Square is very fascinating and very Left-leaning which makes these comparisons even more entertaining. In a piece by Edward Watts, Professor Watts gives detail by detail how a withdrawal from war against Parthia made life better for Romans and the Roman Empire in the 100s. (https://www.zocalopublicsquare.org/2021/09/09/roman-emperor-hadrian-unwinnable-war/) Now, as an aside, was the collapse of the Roman Empire (which this withdrawal undoubtedly led to) a better future for Rome? I’m not professing to being a history professor like Dr. Watts but the fall of Rome is well-freakin-documented.

Let’s look at the parallels Dr. Watts illustrates with the 100s withdrawal by Emperor Hadrian and the details of the Afghanistan withdrawal . In this piece , Dr. Watts writes, “The anonymous author of the Historia Augustawrote, Hadrian “relinquished all of the conquests across the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers.” He later quotes the new emperor as saying that “those areas that can not be defended, should be declared liberated” and returned to local control. Hadrian left the defense of these regions up to the allied governments Rome had just installed.”

Instead of admitting we had no plan for leaving that would be successful, President Biden laid blame for the fall of Afghanistan at the feet of the Afghan troops, saying, “The Afghan military collapsed, sometimes without trying to fight.” Meanwhile 13 of our very own service members were killed in explosions by terrorists forces aiding the Taliban. This collapse falls on the US and it worries me, it could lead to the fall of the United States (yet I believe God will prevent that!)

The most stunning comparison made is infrastructure. Dr. Watts notes that Hadrian BUILT THE PANTHEON as well as Temple of Zeus after this withdrawal. These structures are iconic , and I truly wonder if this 3+ trillion Dollar infrastructure bill leads President Biden to think he can build his very own Colosseum in America. The guy is kinda out of it!

For Edward Watts to say this though in light of the eventual fall of Rome feels like a half-hearted attempt to say withdrawal out of a country without any plan can strengthen a country. “Hadrian spent much of his reign traveling across the empire, repairing infrastructure, and building new public buildings. Hadrian’s Wall in Britain, the Pantheon in Rome, and the massive Temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens are among his most famous infrastructure projects.”

I would rather keep this country built 245 years ago, than a massive structure as a remnant of an empire! 20 years ago two towers were brought down, yet that didn’t bring the US down! We must save this country years later!

I also just can’t see President Biden having the wherewithal to build immaculate buildings, when he can’t even finish building a sentence!

PS: Hadrian took over for Emperor Trajan , is that historic name where Trojan Horse comes from?

Politics Should Stay Out of 9/11 Commemorations

The plain and simple fact is that Washington, DC forgot about the first responders.

It took stalwarts like cancer-stricken fmr. NYPD Detective Luis Alvarez , comedian Jon Stewart , and so many more to fight for those who gave their all and their lives on 9/11/01 !

The only Rep I can remember was Congressman Peter King who pushed for the Zadroga Bill to be re-funded.

The fact that DC had to be screamed at to wake up and take care of our first responders is why politics should be left out of 9/11 commemorations . I do like the fact that speeches by politicians were eliminated from Ground Zero ceremonies in Lower Manhattan.

Whether in NYC or small town America, communities and brethren of the Finest and Bravest honor 9/11/01 the best way possible. They honor it amongst themselves and strengthen the community bond every year around this time. I pray the bonds continue to be strengthened all days of the year not just around a day of tragedy such as September 11th.

20 years later, the divide in America is very evident and it’s the POLS and the media that have made it so. The local firefighter, the local police officer, the neighbor next door all keep this day in their hearts and they don’t push an agenda , that’s how it must be honored . They also honor it with God and faith VERY MUCH in mind!

As a fifth grader 20 years ago, I had wanted to know the next move that President George W. Bush was going to make to defend this country. Back then, politicians like NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Governor George Pataki and yes, W, all worked to heal us not divide us.

20 years later our politics is tainted and the goodness and kindness exuded from Washington , Albany and City Hall has all but dissipated. That’s why it’s up to communities in America to NEVER FORGET!

Alex Garrett Podcasting Let’s Loose on Afghanistan Disaster

On his YouTube channel and his podcast, Alex Garrett looks at the disastrous exit out of Afghanistan from a New York City perspective .

It is a slap in the face to NYC that the region we have fought so hard to get rid of terrorism easily falls apart in NYC. Alex points out that it’s as if defending the city 20 yrs later from terrorism means nothing to the Biden administration.

Alex also expands on the idea that the grief suffered for 20 years of those who lost family members fighting in Afghanistan has been returned watching the work fall to ruin in just one week!

Alex Garrett Podcasting Welcomes Washington Times White House Correspondent 8/16/21

As Afghanistan continues to unravel, what will the Biden Admin do against the Taliban? Washington Times Correspondent Jeff Mordock reacts on Alex Garrett Podcasting.

Personally, the unraveling of a country we had our soldiers fight and protect is heartbreaking. I do believe that families of those that lost their lives fighting their blood sweat and tears in Afghanistan are facing a new grief 20 years later.

I cannot imagine the grief of loved ones watching what their heroic family members lost lives for in the line of duty dissipate in a minute. It’s absolutely horrible !

Our Founding Fathers Had Goals and Never Went Doom-Scrolling

It’s Independence Day Weekend! A weekend we honor and celebrate the biggest goal our Founding Fathers had, breaking us free of tyrannical King George III and Great Britain. A tall task that started really in 1775, culminating with not only the birth of America, but a 245 year preservation effort on behalf of Americans today. The fight for freedom is never ending! Yet to be free and vote to declare freedom on July 2nd, 1776 (signing of the Declaration actually occurred July 4th, 1776!) our Continental Congress and Continental Army did anything but doom-scroll. Even if cell phones were in existence, I really can’t see George Washington telling them while crossing the Delaware, ‘hold up, gotta check that Tik Tok Video’ .

That’s why Independence Day is so special to me. Indulge me as I become Colonial Alex for a moment. It was the rolling up of the sleeves and getting to work to make us free that should inspire us all! If you ever feel yourself doom-scrolling, think about the sacrifices made by soldiers THEN and soldiers NOW that never scroll on the battle field, but stick to the goal of protecting America! Yet, doom-scrolling is a part of why America’s health feels in peril, because American lives are in peril when they spend exorbitant amounts of time scrolling their phone. According to NBC’s Today 73% right now admit to doom-scrolling (I might be one of them, which is why I’m writing this!) https://www.today.com/health/how-stop-doomscrolling-its-affect-your-brain-t188725

Our fight for our own mental freedom day in and day out feels interrupted by our very own habits, does it not? If we limited our thoughts of phone consumption alone, I feel we could focus on preserving America even more! I’ve just recently started to put my phone on Airplane mode over night, that is so freeing! I also enjoy reading and let me tell you, stories of people like Rudy Ruettiger will inspire us to stop doom-scrolling. The man behind the film, ‘Rudy’ , worked as hard as the movie portrayed him to have worked to become part of Notre Dame and cinematic history. That is the American way , is it not?

Hard work is a landmark of this country, which is why I think Uncle Sam should inspire us to stop doom-scrolling and to inspire us to become self-reliant again and not reliant on the government through many stimulus checks. Self-reliance is Godly and paves a way for liberty! Self-reliance got us free from tyranny and will once again keep us free from tyrannical forces. Stop the doom-scrolling and PRESERVE AMERICA!

We Are A Return on Investment

When we talk about ROI, normally it’s in the context of what WE can get back for something we’ve invested in.

Yet, has it ever come to mind that individuals have an ROI attached to them? That companies INVEST in individuals like you or I expecting RESULTS? Companies also don’t just invest in anyone, they are investing in YOU and maybe if thinking of it that way, we can throw out the phrase ‘just another day at the office’.

I never like being told a job is a job, because I don’t feel like the 9-5 type any how. Add on to that this idea that a company pays me personally to get the job done, yes I want to show them the ROI in my work is worth it day in and day out. I also just love working hard, i can’t think of it another way.

It also comes to mind that people are getting used to government benefits like the stimulus checks that they don’t want to go back to work. I can’t imagine it’s a majority of the country, but numbers still show a slow hiring process due to unwillingness to work. What if we instilled in people that companies are willing to re-invest in them and their talents? Wouldn’t that inspire them to stop relying on government help and become Independent again?

It’s Independence Day weekend, don’t be afraid to be an Independent worker who realizes their worth and realizes they aren’t meant to be on the government dime forever.

We are not celebrating Independence Day just to be dependent on Uncle Sam 24/7!

I talked about this on my latest podcast on the idea of ROI being reflected on us as well!

Yes, Juneteenth is Important

June 19th, 1865 is actually a very important day in the history of the United States. For all those that complain about how bad this country is, perhaps Federal recognition of the end of slavery can make them realize while we have flaws, America is truly beautiful!

America is the comeback kid in nearly every instance and ridding the land of slavery truly was a second Independence Day! What I find the craziest is that this day was never recognized before 2020 after the loss of George Floyd.

Why did it have to take tragedy to honor a great day in America? Why does it take tragedy to bring us together in what is supposed to be the United States of America ? I’ll always keep asking that question, considering the fact it took until 2021 for a President to make it a Federally recognized holiday.

Juneteenth is also pretty amazing in the sense of Texas. Yes a General in Texas decreed agreement with the Emancipation Proclamation which led the way to the 13th Amendment! Takes away the red neck narrative , doesn’t it?

According to the Times, Juneteenth became a national holiday and it’s the first national holiday declaration since MLK Day in the 1980s!

Juneteenth should not be a political football but a unifying force in America. It shouldn’t be a day where anti-cop protests pop up, it shouldn’t be a day where America-haters continue to say we are a bad country. It also shouldn’t be a day that those on the right are afraid of or try to tie to critical race theory. I understand many are calling for more action on the social justice front with this declaration , yet Juneteenth is a day that ended slavery and that’s how it should be honored!

I podcasted about this here! (https://www.spreaker.com/episode/45363277)

We should all rally behind the idea that slavery finally ended on that day , bottom line, End scene.

The Day After Memorial Day…

‘Lest we forget ‘ became a mantra nearly 20 years ago after September 11, 2001. I believe that we should never forget our fallen the day after Memorial Day.

AlexGNYC1: Wreath thrown into the Hudson River at the Intrepid Air and Space Museum’s 2021 Memorial Day celebration.

Memorial Day weekend has always been labeled the ‘unofficial start of Summer’ and some might even call it a ‘long weekend’ . We don’t get to call it any of this without the reason for it. We don’t get to kick back and relax with friends and family on Memorial Day weekend if blood wasn’t shed or lives were not lost on the battlefield to protect our freedoms !

While at the Intrepid Air and Space Museum’s beautiful Memorial Day ceremony, it hit me. Living American veterans lost brothers and sisters during combat and no matter how old a veteran , I can’t imagine these ceremonies get any easier.

The war stories these veterans tell are also quite incredible and the adaptations made in time of war, to the point of losing a fellow soldier in combat are timeless !

I personally do love going to these ceremonies because I don’t believe our fallen heroes should have fought for America in vain and died in vain. It’s also a twist that while I only have the one leg, I didn’t lose it in war, which makes me appreciate those who fought and have lost limbs in a war and even their lives defending us even more.

We gather for these ceremonies and then I get the sense that we kind of forget about our troops the day after Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Veterans Day. ‘Lest We Forget’ the sacrifices made 365 days a year as our men and women in the armed forces never stop making them, even in our hospitals by healthcare heroes for our fellow Americans. All who serve to defend us do it for love of God and Country!
